One Week in Cancun, Mexico

Day 1

We arrived at the hotel. We stayed at Ambiance Kin Ha Villas which has now changed names since our visit to Beachscape Kin Ha Villas & Suites. If you are looking to stay at a hotel with the best white sand beach in Cancun, look no further than this hotel. This beach was by far the best of the surrounding hotel’s beaches.

We took time on this day to explore a small portion of the city and enjoy the beach at our hotel. We also made time to think about the different activities we wanted to do the rest of the days of our trip and talked to the hotel staff about the various options we had for these different excursions. I highly recommend talking to the staff as they may have ideas for you that you may have not known about no matter how much you research before arriving at your destination.

Day 2

We spent time on the beach in the morning while waiting for the departure of our catamaran, snorkeling, and private island lunch tour of Isla Mujeres, which translates to Island of Women in English. The water is amazing in this area. We arrived back in the early evening and went to a restaurant for dinner and enjoyed another stroll on the beach at the end of the night.

Day 3

On this day, we rode a tour bus over to Xcaret Park. Xcaret Park is an eco-archaeological park which celebrates Mexican history and culture. There are cenotes, an underground river, the Caribbean Sea, many animals and plant life to observe, equestrian shows, dances, the Xcaret Mexico Espectacular show, and much more to enjoy on this beautiful excursion. With over 50 natural and cultural attractions, you can’t go wrong spending a day here. It is amazing.

Day 4

In the morning we spent time on the beach while waiting for our parasailing time. After we parasailed, we went shopping at the market in downtown Cancun. I got my hair braided here. It is not uncommon to haggle for prices at the flea market. As we walked away from different places, many would make offers to get us to buy some items. Our favorite thing we brought back were little hand painted turtles. After we shopped, ate some street food, and listened to the music being played at the market, we went back to the hotel and spent some time swimming in the pool and enjoying more beach and ocean views.

Day 5

We left early on another tour bus, to go to Chichen Itza. Chichen Itza is one of the seven wonders of the world and is made up of ancient Mayan ruins. We spent the day walking around with our guide learning about all of the various structures that make up the Mayan ruins. It is such a fascinating experience. We stayed for the night show that lights up the structures at Chichen Itza and tells the story of the Mayans.

Day 6

We spent this day walking and exploring the nearby buildings and of course enjoying more of the beach. In the evening, we took a tour of the bar and club scene in Cancun. We stayed with a group and went from place to place together. The first places were mostly outdoor and chill with live bands playing and a relaxed atmosphere. We ended the night in a downstairs enormous club that had dancers swinging over our heads. It was a very impressive show to watch but it was a little chaotic in the club and was hard to leave when we were ready to go back to the hotel as all of the doors were locked. It took awhile to get someone to let us leave the club. We walked back to the hotel and found a nice beachside bar that was empty and enjoyed the view to end the night before heading back to our hotel.

Day 7

We packed up and enjoyed a last little bit of time on the beach, before heading to the airport.

With so many activities including parasailing, snorkeling, visiting pyramids, an ecological theme park, and breathtaking turquoise waters, Cancun, Mexico has ended up being one of my favorite destinations to visit.
