Is the Yeti Tundra 35 Cooler Worth the Hype?

Yeti Tundra 35 Cooler Review

We went tent camping a couple of weeks ago and decided to take our new Yeti Tundra 35 Cooler. This was our first time using the cooler and the weather was hot. It was a weekend of 90 degree Fahrenheit days. The next weekend, my kids decided to use the cooler to hold ice for a lemonade stand on another hot 90 degree day. We wanted to know, would this cooler hold up to Iowa’s heat? Is the Yeti brand worth the hype? Here are the Pros and Cons after using this cooler a couple of times.

Pros:

  • The cooler kept our food cold and drinks cold the entire weekend of hot weather.
  • I did not have to refill the small amount of ice we put in the cooler. There was ice still sitting in the cooler when we returned home.
  • On the day of the lemonade stand, another 90 degree day, the ice we placed in it was easily available to put in cups for people who wanted ice cold lemonade.
  • The handles that close the cooler are made of a durable material and are easy enough for my kids to open and close the cooler.
  • The container itself is made of a high quality durable material that is super heavy. It feels like it will last for a long time.
  • It comes in a variety of colors to pick from. I picked the white.
  • It is a trusted brand that lives up to its name. It is strong, durable, and keeps food and drinks cold.
  • Save money on ice. No need to buy more ice when the ice lasts for the entire weekend, even in the heat.

Cons:

  • It is a heavy cooler. There are straps on the side so two people can carry the cooler.
  • It is a fairly expensive item that rarely goes on sale but it lives up to its promise of keeping food cold.
  • After a long weekend of camping, the white color I chose did get some dirt on it which is expected. It did clean up easily. If dirt on your cooler bothers you, you may want to pick a different color that it doesn’t show up on as much when it does happen.
  • It is smaller on the inside. The cooler is very heavily insulated and this insulation does take up a lot of space you would normally expect to see on the inside. The cooler does hold a lot of food and drinks though. On our camping trip we were able to take lots of cutie clementine oranges, bottles of water, 2 packs of bacon, an 18 pack of eggs, cheese slices, 2 mason jars of milk, ketchup, hash browns, jelly, 2 packs of hot dogs, and ice. With our large family, we did end up packing another cooler for more drinks for this camping trip. The other cooler was an old Coleman that keeps things cold in hot weather for about three hours. The foods we wanted to be kept the coldest were kept in this cooler. If you have a large family or are staying a longer time than a weekend, you may want to upgrade to a larger cooler or do like we did and divide your stuff into multiple coolers, keeping the stuff that needs extra cold in the Yeti cooler.

My Recommendation: Yes, the Yeti cooler is worth the hype and it can withstand Iowa’s heat. If you want a cooler that will keep your food cold all weekend long, even in extremely hot weather, look no further than this amazing cooler. This cooler exceeded my high expectations I had for this trusted brand with its ability to keep food and drinks cold. I would definitely recommend this cooler to anyone who needs a cooler that will keep food and drinks cold for multiple days.
