Stearns Life Vests for Infants, Kids, and Adults Product Review
We recently purchased these Stearns life vests to go out on the water with our inflatable kayak. Why did we choose this brand of life vests? We chose these particular vests because they were listed as the overall picks and best sellers on Amazon and they were listed at an affordable price. Stearns is a trusted brand and approved by the US Coast Guard and meets their safety standards. Here are the Pros and Cons for these products.
Pros:
- Safety First. Trusted brand meeting US Coast Guard safety standards.
- Easy to put on and take off with 3 adjustable buckles.
- Comes in a variety of sizing including infant sizing, two sizes for kids, and 2 sizes for adults. The infant sizing is Babies and Kids under 30 pounds. The kids sizes are 30 to 50 pounds and 50 to 90 pounds. The adult sizes are Standard Fit 30 – 52-inch chest size and Oversized Fit 52 – 62-inch chest size.
- Has a protective antimicrobial coating that resists odor, fungi, mold, and mildew.
- Fits comfortably at an affordable price, especially for a large family. Not too bulky or too hot to wear over clothing. There is a cheaper, bulkier option, that is the standard keyhole design, which can be found here. I find the Stearns to be less bulky and more comfortable than this style. It just depends on your preference. If all kids and adults are not going to be in the water at the same time, you can save money buy purchasing only the amount of vests and sizes of vests, you would need for people on the water at the same time. This also can save a little bit of space in the car. We chose to purchase 2 standard adult size and one child size as that is the appropriate ranges are kids and adults are in. I definitely recommend getting the right sizes for each person so they work in the safest manner possible.
Cons:
- Not many color choices to pick from. There are a lot of other brands you can choose from for colors and character designs if these life vests are not the right color choices for you. Find other choices here.
- If you are an avid kayaker or are out on the water constantly for other water activities and sports, you may want to spend more money and purchase an even more comfortable life vest. Here are some options if this suits your needs. The Stearns Life Vests suits my family’s needs as we only kayak for a fairly short amount of time and only go occasionally on the weekends.
